Colee Cox of Tell, Texas, gathered up more than $28,000 throughout the 2024 Hooey Jr. Patriot including the Open Breakaway Championship, worth $6,169.
Cox advanced to the Open Shootout Round with an aggregate of 5.4 seconds on two runs before blowing the doors off with a 1.98-second run, earning $1,709. Her aggregate of 7.38 seconds on three head topped No. 2 by three tenths of a second and netted $4,460 for the average win.
“I brought two breakaway horses to The Patriot,” Cox said. “The one I won the Open on, that’s “Fly,” and I do the reined cowhorse on him. He’s very tight in the pen—I can never get him freed up so he’s what I use when the calves are slower, and I need to be fast.”
The panhandle cowgirl advanced to the Semifinals in 15 & Under Goat Tying, 15 & Under Breakaway and 19 & Under Breakaway.
“This week I haven’t been thinking about roping—just doing it,” Cox said. “I live for roping, so this is an everyday thing for me.”
